Abstract Painting with Linda Benton McCloskey v The Millworks
4 week class: May 2, 9, 16 & 23 from 9:00am - 3:00pm
Anyone can paint abstractly. All you need is a good nudge in the right direction. We will explore non-objective painting starting with basic concepts and simply add on to the process. We will be working on canvas and paper with acrylic and watercolor. Lots of demonstrations as well as personal instruction. You should be able to complete at least 4 or 5 paintings by the end of the class. Join us for lots of fun and class participation and critiques. Beginner to Intermediate Class. Materials List:
Paints: either tube or fluid will work (Liquitex Basic is okay)
Paper towels
One sheet of watercolor paper (Linda will supply if you want to purchase from her)
Brushes – toothbrush, your choice of rounds and flats. You will need a good 2” flat brush, 1” flat brush, ½” flat brush, a small round and a liner (or rigger). You can also use 1 or 2 of the cheap chip brushes. AC Moore sells a pack of brushes which is excellent.
All items can be purchased at AC Moore or Michaels.
WEAR OLD CLOTHES that you don’t mind getting messy with paint.
Other Important Items:
Liquitex Super Heavy Gesso (my favorite) AC Moore or molding (modeling) paste / or hardware store Venetian plaster
Black Gesso
Gloss Medium & Varnish (Liquitex) – AC Moore or Michaels
Palette Knife
Charcoal – chunky
Markers
Pencil
Water (in a spray bottle)
Paper towels
Squeegees – different sizes from credit card size to larger – also AC Moore sells a grey wedge that works well made by Princeton.
Brayer – A MUST – I use the “soft” type (AC Moore and Michaels sells the Speedball brand in the craft section)
Big water container – like a large coffee can
Canvas – We will be working on 2 large canvas – 40 x 30 (minimum) plus one on paper. Bring 2 canvases the first day. I will have some paper for purchase.
Freezer paper – near the Reynolds Wrap at the grocery store – we use this as a palette.
