“The colonised is elevated above his jungle status in proportion to his adoption of the mother country’s cultural standards.” That was the view of the great Frantz Fanon. He also said, “ The oppressed will always believe the worst about themselves”, enslaved in inferiority, looking to foreign philosophy or religion to break free.

Science however tells us otherwise – that melinated people are known to operate on different vibrations to those of low skin pigmentation. The psychological and spiritual structure of the African is unique – leading to question if Eurocentric healing therapies are adequate to address the legacy of trauma. In addition, should the African rely on any methodology of the oppressor to free him from the said oppression he imposed?

In light of such searching questions, The Centre is delighted to host Dr McInnis for a ground-breaking seminar on the healing practice and therapies of our ancestors. Using the best of African psychology, Dr McInnis will help us to understand the therapeutic tools that existed long before contemporary medicine and psychotherapy; helping us harness the healing power of philosophies such as Ubuntu, Ma’at and Yurugu – philosophies which are ancestral templates for balance, prosperity and the fullness of life.
