Band on the Wall x Sounds from the Other City v fivefourstudios
We’re super excited to announce that for the first time, Band on the Wall will be curating and hosting a stage at one of our favourite new music and art festivals, the epic Sounds From The Other City, ft. Suzi Wu and XamVolo with more to be announced.
Marking the festival’s 14th annual celebration of new music and performance on Chapel Street, this year's line-up of selectors includes old favourites, cult classics, and some new blood - all in-keeping with the usual otherworldly feeling that makes the early May bank holiday in Salford so special.
Our stage is Studio One at fivefourstudios and the line-up so far features:
Suzi Wu
A cocktail of Ian Dury, Happy Mondays and Patti Smith, Suzi Wu, aka 19 year old North Londoner Suzie McDermott, has clearly been hugely influenced by the visceral connection between pop, performance, personal empowerment and self-education. With only two songs from her debut EP already released, Suzi's captivating storytelling and refreshingly unique sound has found her fans across the board, earning her 'World Record' and 'World First' on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show, BBC Radio 1 support from Huw Stephens, Annie Mac and Phil Taggart, a top 10 spot on the UK Spotify viral chart and a number 1 on Hype Machine.
XamVolo
“He’s the future,” – that’s how BBC Radio 1 DJ and tastemaker Mistajam described XamVolo. It’s a fair assessment. In the last 12 months, the 23-year-old artist has risen to the attention of critics and music fans the world over thanks to his impressionist reimaginings of neo-soul, jazz and pop. He’s played Glastonbury, sold out a headline London show, and been compared with everyone from D’Angelo to Anderson Paak. Now, he’s on the cusp of releasing an inventive con-cept EP, with the promise of a debut album titled ‘All the Sweetness on the Surface’ to follow quickly after.
Tickets on sale now. Physical tickets will be available in the new year from selected locations - and they are liable to sell out well in advance of the big day.
A perfect present, either for a loved one or for yourself. See you soon - it'll be Sunday 6 May before you know it.
