Beats & Bass Society AGM v Beats and Bass Society
IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN...TIME FOR THE AGM! (WOO!)
After another stellar year from the Beats & Bass crew, things are beginning to draw to a close. I think we can all agree that this year's committee have done an incredible job, from staying alive during Freshers Week, to running the DJ workshops, production classes and throwing memorable parties. These guys have done a hell of a lot, not to mention going out all the time (it's hard work!). Now the party is not over, and neither is their work, but we must start to think...who will take over?
THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS UP TO YOU!
On 28th March, we will be holding our annual AGM, where we hear from all who wishes to run for next year's committee and vote in all the roles. If you are interested in running for a position, it is important that you read the following information about which roles are available and what they entail:
President - Responsible for overseeing all society business, making key decisions, leading the team, and being point of contact between us and the Guild. This is the only role where some experience is strongly recommended.
Vice President - Assistant to all of the above! Expect to be coordinating the build and break of Society events.
Publicity Officer - This position is responsible for getting word out to both members and non members about all Society events. He/She will be required to source and distribute physical and digital marketing materials and work closely with the Web Officer.
Stock Officer - AKA equipment manager. Requires strong organisational and communication skills as you’ll need to coordinate the extremely busy hire schedule of the Society's equipment portfolio, as well as sourcing external equipment where needed. Some knowledge of audio equipment recommended although not compulsory. You must have a car to run for this role.
Social Sec - Self-explanatory! This position is crucial for creating the community vibe that we all love. Some of the stuff you’ll be doing include arranging nights out to Bristol, sorting our Urban Underground socials and Beats and Bowling.
Web/Graphics Officer - Responsible for all social media, in conjunction with Publicity Officer. Also responsible for developing the Society website and coordinating online ticketing with the Guild.
Treasurer - Responsible for all society funds. This includes managing our Student Guild bank account, keeping spreadsheets accounts, tracking payments, preparing budgets and ensuring all equipment hiring parties pay on time and in full.
Radio Officer - Responsible for getting the radio show going. Needs to get training and provide presenter training to others so the show can be passed on. This person provides the platform for DJs and producers to showcase their stuff!
**IMPORTANT**
TIME AND LOCATION OF THE AGM IS TBC
Despite the listing of these roles, the society has always been run on a pitch-in basis. You’ll be expected to use your various skills - regardless of your official committee position - to make sure things get done, be it photoshopping, nightclub photography, promoting, tech, booking acts or even health and safety. We all get stuck in wherever needed, even if that means going out and putting up posters in the rain. Apparently in some societies, committee members will say "I'm not doing that because it's not my position." Not here.
**HOW THE AGM WORKS**
1) Message the Beats and Bass Society PAGE with the position(s) you want to run for (maximum 2).
2) At the AGM you’ll give a 3 minute speech outlining why you’re running and your relevant experience.
Once all the speeches are done, we’ll ask everyone to vote.
3) We’ll count up the votes at the end - person with the most votes wins - and then we shall announce the new committee.
If you have any questions, please feel free to message the page or speak to any member of the committee in person if you feel more comfortable doing that.
Much love,
Robbie
