Camilla George Quartet v The Grand Venue
Camilla George, a young alto saxophonist - performer, improviser, composer & teacher - is an excellent addition to the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival programme! She has made a big impact in the past year, leading a terrific young quartet that jumps straight from the jazz tradition with an added calypso twist.
Camilla has featured with Jazz Jamaica and Courtney Pine's Venus Warriors. She presents her modern edged quartet comprising some of London's finest young players who have performed individually with the likes of Gilad Atzmon, Clark Tracey, Ezra Collective and Tomorrows Warriors. Though inspired by contemporary artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Jeff 'Tain' Watts and Kenny Kirkland, the quartet pays homage to the jazz tradition, with a bit of calypso thrown into the mix.
In October 2009 she performed with Jazz Jamaica and Ernest Ranglin at London’s Ronnie Scotts jazz club. In October 2014, Camilla performed at Ronnie Scott’s for 3 consecutive nights with Jazz Jamaica. The performance received rave reviews and was a sell out performance. In 2014 she also joined Courtney Pine's Venus Warriors, an all female super group. Camilla George is definitely one of jazz's Rising Stars!
