Colour Haze + TBA Support (London) v The Garage London
Desertscene and SOUND OF LIBERATION are ecstatic to announce that the mind-melting German cosmonauts, Colour Haze, will be touching down at The Garage, London on May 22nd.
One of the pillars of the European stoner-psych scene, Colour Haze first formed as a band with roots firmly in 60s and 70s hard rock. Their first release Chopping Machine, though brimming with experimental psych, is, at its core, a heavy, heavy experience, with hints of Fatso Jetson and fellow countrymen Rotor to name but a few.
By the time of 2004's self titled, Colour Haze had moved to a more spaced out and overtly mellowed sound, though there are still hints of the band's early work at the peaks of their signature crescendoing style and heavy fuzzed out elements. In the following years, which saw the release of the mesmerising Tempel and All, Colour Haze firmly found their spot as the kings of European stoner-psych.
After their slew of consistently genre-defining albums, the band started work on what would become their greatest work; 2012's double album She Said. The album, which was blighted by a whole host of delays in the recording process, is, to this point, the finest work of European stoner-psych ever created. An album of pure warmth with meandering jam passages, righteous riffs and meticulous execution of, well, just about everything. Their surprise follow up, To the Highest Gods we Know, took the band on an even more experimental route, with Middle Eastern vibes accompanying their more recognisable tone.
Their latest release, last year's In Her Garden (yet another double album, seemingly just to spoil us all), put their signature groovy, fuzz radiating tone on full display whilst keeping their forward momentum going with an increasingly proggy backbone. The introduction of Jan Faszbender on keyboards for the album, which seamlessly added yet another layer to Colour Haze's sound, has since become a long term appointment, with Faszbender joining the band for future recordings and live for dates including this one.
They say there are two types of people in the world; those who love Colour Haze and those who haven't seen them live. Make sure you don't miss them, and yet to be announced support, when they play The Garage on 22nd May. Book your tickets today.
