Don McGlashan returns to the UK this November for the first time in five years to play two intimate shows. Since his last visit, he’s released a new solo album “Lucky Stars”, toured extensively around New Zealand and Australia, worked on a few film scores and started living in Vancouver part time. He plays London, and for the first time Glasgow, solo with guitar, pedals and the odd brass instrument.
Don McGlashan is one of New Zealand’s best known and highly regarded songwriters. He lead iconic kiwi band The Mutton Birds for most of the 90s, relocating with the group to London for the latter half of that time. Their album “Envy Of Angels” made the UK Sunday Times ten best albums list. David Sheppard of Q Magazine called The Mutton Birds’ 4th album “Rain Steam & Speed” “…a minor masterpiece”. Since The Mutton Birds, Don’s made three acclaimed solo albums, “Warm Hand” - 2006, “Marvellous Year” - 2009, and "Lucky Stars" - 2015. His 2006 gospel anthem “Bathe In The River” - sung by Hollie Smith, has become one of the biggest NZ singles of all time.
Don's toured Australia, the US and Europe with Crowded House, both as opening act and as a band member, and he guested on euphonium, guitar, mandolin and backing vocals on Crowded House albums "Time On Earth" and "Intriguer". He was part of Neil Finn's Seven Worlds Collide project - collaborating on his own songs with the Smiths' Johnny Marr, and members of Wilco and Radiohead, and he's just finished providing vocals on Finn's most recent album "Out Of Silence".
