Freakender presents: Acid Dad + Boytoy (NYC) v NICE N SLEAZY
Freakender are psyched to bring you a co-headliner with New York's Acid Dad & BOYTOY both visiting Glasgow for the first time!!
Acid Dad first appeared in the New York scene at the outset of 2015.
After spending the year self-releasing demos recorded at their studio in upstate New York, the band garnered local praise from the likes of Oh My Rockness, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence of Sound and Stereogum. After releasing their debut EP “Let’s Plan a Robbery” in February of 2016, followed by their first sold out show at Baby’s All Right, Acid Dad embarked upon a two month tour of the United States. Fresh off their first tour, which included numerous SXSW performances as well as appearances on Daytrotter, Audiotree and Jam in the Van, the band started writing their debut LP. While recording, Acid Dad continued to play alongside their contemporaries including Thee Oh Sees, Diarrhea Planet and Night Beats. At the outset of 2017 the band recorded their debut LP which was engineered, mixed and co-produced by Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, The Drums, The Men). Now, in 2017, the band continues to tour as they prepare the release of their first record in 2018 followed by their first world-wide tour.
BOYTOY is a summer-time strut down a New York City sidewalk as the sun slips behind the horizon, where cement meets the shore and waves crash on pavement. Their sound ebbs and flows between natural harmony and destruction - embodying the bright grooves of the 1960’s with heavy guitar riffs snatched from the Lower East Side 1970’s.
Striking a contagious chord (or three!) in forthcoming sophomore LP “Night Leaf”, band founders Saara Untracht-Oakner (vocals, guitar) and Glenn Van Dyke (vocals, guitar), are joined by Chasé Noelle (formerly of Thelma and the Sleaze) and Lena Simon (also of La Luz), resulting in a record and band that evokes the sound of the summer we've all been crying out for!
