GVS Screening of Speciesism the Movie v Stereo Cafe Bar
PLEASE INVITE YOUR NON-VEGAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY
This film examines our relationship with non-human animals, logically and critically. Mark Devries considers how we are using other animals and whether or not that can be morally justified, interviewing animal rights theorists such as Tom Regan, Gary Francione and Sherry Colb.
We are showing this film primarily to encourage non-vegans to consider the issue of our use of non-human animals. If you're already vegan please bring non-vegan friends, family, colleagues etc. THIS EVENT IS FREE AND NO TICKET IS REQUIRED. Please feel free to print the poster image and put up anywhere you think non-vegans may be interested.
The atmosphere will be supportive and encouraging; no one will be put on the spot. We will show the film and then have a discussion about it, for anyone who wishes to stay on for that.
***The film does not focus on graphic footage of animal use and killing, instead considering the issues and arguments, but it does contain some graphic footage. We've shown this film three times previously and our experience is that people were able to anticipate the footage and cover their eyes if they wished to do so. There is no rating for this film but we would not recommend that children be brought to this event.***
No film on animal rights is without its flaws, and there will be time for discussion of some of the issues with this film afterwards.
Stereo has very kindly given us use of their downstairs event space for this. From memory access avoiding the stairs may not be possible, but we are double checking this and will update the details once we've confirmed.
EDITED TO ADD: Unfortunately Stereo do not have wheelchair access to the downstairs area. Access is via a number of flights of stairs. We are very limited in terms of venues we can use for an event like this. Stereo are not charging us for the space. If you know of a better space in terms of access where we could show a film to 30+ people for free please let us know for next time. We have a projector, we just need a blank wall and space for folk to sit and watch.
Thanks and see you there ????
