International woman weekend v Golden Lion Todmorden
With it's roots in the women's suffrage activism of the early 1900s, in the context of the labour movement in America, the revolution in Russia and pre-wartime Europe, International Women's Day (IWD) has become globally recognised as a celebration and catalyst of the work towards women's rights and world peace.
No single organisation, government, charity, institution, media outlet or network is responsible for IWD. It is time for you, us, all women individually and collectively, to unite, reflect, celebrate, plan, act and move towards the world we want to see for our peers and daughters.
This year's theme is #PressforProgress, aiming to highlight the current growing momentum for gender parity across the world and to stimulate everyone to contribute towards continuing this movement.
This call for parity, in terms of respect, status, pay and our voice being heard in society, is ultimately aiming for a peaceful world where we are all people are treated as equals. Make Internaitonal Women’s Day the day were you start you Press for Progress!
