Martin Metcalfe & The Fornicators v The Bungalow
Martin Metcalfe, formerly of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, Angelfish and Isa & the Filthy Tongues, comes to…….. to perform tracks from his extensive back catalogue.
Martin Metcalfe first performed in the mid 80s as a member of long forgotten Bathgate band, the wonderfully named but airplay challengingly titled, Teenage Dog Orgy. However, it is through his time with Goodbye Mr. McKenzie that he is best known for along with Angelfish, Isa and The Filthy Tongues and, latterly, The Filthy Tongues.
Goodbye Mr. McKenzie had a hit single with ‘The Rattler’ and the album Good Deeds And Dirty Rags and went on to be managed by Gary Kurfirst who also managed Blondie the Ramones and Talking Heads. They released a further three albums and numerous UK top 100 singles before recording an album as Angelfish with Goodbye Mr. McKenzie member Shirley Manson on lead vocals. A self titled album was recorded with Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads and was well received. The appearance of the video for the single ‘Suffocate Me’ on MTV led to Shirley Manson joining Garbage as the lead singer.
A fourth album was released in 1996, The Glory Hole, and Goodbye Mr McKenzie were laid to rest as a going concern.
Martin Metcalfe then formed Isa and The Filthy Tongues with fellow Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie members, Fin Wilson and Derek Kelly along with an American singer, Stacey Chavis. They released two albums in this guise and recorded three songs for the directorial debut of former Skids frontman, Richard Jobson’s New Town Killers. As The Filthy Tongues (sans Stacey Chavis) they released the fantastic album Jacobs Ladder in 2016 which received rave reviews and followed it up with a number of fantastic live shows.
Martin Metcalfe has always been a class act as a songwriter and performer and with The Fornicators he delves deeps into his enviable back catalogue with songs from across his lengthy career interspersed with his interpretations of some of the songs that have inspired, influenced or moved him over the years. At the end of 2017 they released a live album recorded in Glasgow.
Martin Metcalfe also contributed four songs to The Skids recent UK chart album 'Burning Cities' co-written with Skids frontman Richard Jobson.
