More than four years since its last appearance, Mid-day Mantra returns with the prolific British-Indian composer and sarod virtuoso Soumik Datta Arts, who brings the sounds of South Asia to the stunning Dome of the University of Birmingham's The Bramall Music Hall.
Through his mastery of the sarod (a 19-stringed instrument prominent in Northern India and Pakistan), Soumik’s technique bridges Indian classical and contemporary music. Trained by the legendary Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, he has collaborated with international artists including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Bill Bailey, Nitin Sawhney, Anoushka Shankar, Talvin Singh and Joss Stone.
Accompanying Soumik at Mid-day Mantra is virtuoso percussionist Ayoze de Alejandro Lopez (Canary Islands).
