Trio Grande v The Orbit - Home of Jazz
#The4thMovement: TRIO GRANDE
#The4thMovement is a coming of age celebration encompassing the past, present, and the future – somewhere in between all of that is a variety of old and new things.
On the auspicious occasion of its fourth birthday, three South African jazz legends have decided to honour The Orbit with their first ever performance together as a trio.
Paul Hanmer, Feya Faku, and Louis Mhlanga all need no introduction. Together they are new group, Trio Grande. These three musicians have been intimately involved in shaping South Africa’s musical landscape as well as that of jazz the world over. Individually, and sometimes together, they have inspired and paved the way for thousands.
On Wednesday, 14 March – the actual birthday of The Orbit – they will present the venue and it patrons with a gift that will surely be treasured for generations to come; their debut performance as Trio Grande.
“We, as Trio Grande members, have every expectation as well as no expectation of what to expect. Feya Faku had proposed this grouping way back when and, of course, Louis and I just immediately said yes – an unexpected meeting of temperaments and timbres, and a new way of exploring small group possibilities.”
- Paul Hanmer, on behalf of Trio Grande
