Desertscene in association with Old Empire are proud to announce that we’re bringing you a mighty double bill of North Carolina underground legends. Wilmington’s sludge goliaths Weedeater and special guests, stoner metalers ASG, will be tearing down Thekla Bristol on Friday 11th May.
Formed following the disbandment of sludge innovators Buzzov*en in 1998, Weedeater have been a staple of any heavy playlist ever since their early noughties double gut punch of ...And Justice for Y’all and Sixteen Tons. Powered by an undercurrent of infectious swagger and blistering energy, Weedeater are purely good time sludge. Twenty years in, they continue to bring their spreadably thick riffs accompanied by Dixie’s gravel-spitting roars, with latest release Goliathan possessing all the downtuned fury of what has come before. There’s nothing quite like seeing Weedeater live.
Our special guests for the night are fellow Wilmington natives ASG who have been flying the flag for stoner rock and metal since 2001. Debuting with their ass-kicking self-titled in 2003, the impressive vocal range of Jason Shi is immediately apparent as it cuts through the grooved riffs. Five albums (and one hell of a split with Black Tusk) down the line, ASG have been an avalanche of hooks for 17 years and never fail to bring the party.
