8th Annual Garden Party v The VORTEX

Come join us in in a day of frivolity as we replenish our Nationally Certified Butterfly Sanctuary at The Butterfly Bar @The VORTEX after a cold, harsh winter. Over the past eight years, we have actively cultivated butterfly vines, fed the caterpillars, and watched them emerge from their chrysalises as butterflies of many varieties. Celebrate with neighbors and friends of The VORTEX with a day of art, planting, live music, and renewal of the Earth. Bring a butterfly vine to plant. Mother Earth will be in attendance to help restore the garden and welcome the new additions.
Many thanks to our event sponsor, Tiny Tails to You! Austin's traveling petting zoo. They'll be bringing the furriest, friendliest guests around! If you love bunnies, hedgehogs, tortoises and chickens, then this is the perfect way to spend your afternoon.
Live Music by Djamberry Caravan will accompany our planting. Dance, art projects, and sculpture will provide hands-on opportunities for people to create their own butterfly inspired art works. Patrizi's will be open and serving up a special Garden Party menu. The Butterfly Bar will be serving special Garden inspired cocktails in addition to our regular menu, including a delicious twist on the mimosa called The Butterfly. Hoola hooping and gardening!
Donations of butterfly-friendly plants are much appreciated. The following native plants would be great additions to the sanctuary: Milkweed, Milkweed, Milkweed Vine (the Monarchs like it best!!) Cypress Vine, Cardinal Climber, Passion Flower, Coral Honey Suckle, Texas Wisteria, Alamo Vine, Trumpet Creeper, Cross Vine, Texas Bindweed, and Morning Glory. Non-prickly Cacti (Texas variety), Mexican Lantana, Rosemary, Shrimp plant, Pipevine, Marigold, sunflower, Verbena, Thistle, Frogfruit, Flame Acanthus, Gregg's Mistflower, Bottlebrush, Bluebonnet, Indian Paintbrush/Blanket, Salvia, Yarrow, Zinnia, Roses, Goldenrod, False Indigo, and Vitex.
Big bags of potting soil, mulch, and compost, gardening tools and gloves also welcome.
