After my event linking the refugee crisis to climate change, the next focus of my environmental talks is linking climate change to liberation issues.

The impacts of climate change disproportionately people in the global south, and of those, disproportionately affects women. In 1991, a cyclone and flood in Bangladesh had a death rate for women five times higher than for me. Research has also found that women and children are 14 more likely to die in a disaster than men.

We will have a talk by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Gill Valentine who is the most senior person responsible the day to day running of the University. She has won the highly regarded Royal Geographical Society/Institute of British Geographies Gill Memorial Award for contributions to Geography and gender, as well as the Murchison Award for her work on the geography of difference, equality and diversity.

Also on the panel we have Natalie Bennett, the local Green Party candidate as well as representatives from our sustainability committee.
